Stuttgart is one of Germany's most fascinating cities and the capital of Baden-Württemberg. Main sights are the grand palaces, vineyards in the pretty Neckar Valley, world-class museums, galleries and parks. Stuttgart is also well-known for festivals such as the Wine Village, the Cannstatter Volksfest and the beautiful christmas market. Excellent shopping you'll find in the leafy downtown area which is devoted to pedestrians.

Main sights in Stuttgart

  • A must see is the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Here you'll find the 125-year history of famous cars.
  • About 80 historic and race cars are exhibited in the Porsche Museum. Discover the style and spirit that epitomize Porsche.
  • The 217 m tall TV tower is one of Stuttgart's landmarks. The TV Tower is the first of its kind in the world. Since 1956 you can enjoy a fanatic view from the two observation decks.
  • If you are a shopoholic you are right in Stuttgart-Downtown. Stroll on Stuttgart's mile-long Königstrasse and discover excellent shopping. It's Germany's longest pedestrian shopping street. Here you'll also find the heart of the city. The Stuttgart Palace Square is well-known for its baroque gardens and impressive buildings such as the New Kings Palace.
  • Other highlights in the inner city are the Stiftskirche, the Old Chancellery and the Old Castle. Art Nouveau you'll find in the Market Hall.

Events and festivals in Stuttgart

Stuttgart is nicknamed the Swabian metropolis, because of location in the centre of Swabia. A lot of sporting events and festivals take place in the city. World-famous is the annual Cannstatter Volksfest. It's one of Europe's best beer festivals with a lot of tents and attractions. More than 4 million people are visting the extensive Wasen area, near the river Neckar, every year in the three-week Stuttgart Beer Festival
Stuttgart's Christmas Market is one of the largest and oldest traditional Christmas markets in Germany. This market has some 200 beautiful decorated stalls in front of the Old Castle and a history of mote than 300 years.
Also famous is the Wine Village, the Stuttgart Weindorf. This annual festival is held at Market Square and Schiller Square in late August to early September. Some 120 decorated stalls are offering more than 250 different local wines.
