The town of Mosbach.
The town of just under 25,000 inhabitants is located in a scenic location on the southern foothills of the Odenwald in the romantic Neckar valley between the conurbations of Heidelberg/Mannheim and Heilbronn/Stuttgart.
Mosbach developed around the Benedictine monastery "Monasterium Mosbach" and is first mentioned in an official document in 826. Centuries to come, especially the 16th and 17th Centuries, marked the culmination of the urban development of Mosbach. Many magnificent buildings, such as the Palm'sches Haus on the market square or Haus Kickelhain, one of the smallest free-standing timber-framed houses in Germany with only 26 square meters of living space, were created in this time and show to this day the pride, prosperity and life of yesteryear.
The medieval town is part of national cultural and natural organisations such as the Nature Parks Naturpark Neckartal-Odenwald and Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald, the German Half-Timbered House Road and the Castle Road, and is ideally located for hiking and cycling enthusiasts. Around Mosbach, approximately 120 km of marked trails surround the beautiful natural landscape. It is not 500 meters from the historic market square in the bustling centre and the connected Federal Garden Show Park in the forested Odenwald. The picturesque castles in the Neckar valley (Hornberg, Guttenberg) are easily accessible on foot or by bike.
With its historic timbered ambience, Mosbach is a popular holiday and excursion destination. Historic tours invite you to plunge into the multi-faceted history, city tours and diversely themed tours bring visitors closer to even the remotest corners. In terms of leisure, sport and recreation, there is a wide variety and abundance for all ages and interests; the fun and water park "faMos" is especially appealing for young and old.
Within its region, Mosbach has made a reputation for itself regarding its cultural diversity and often exceptional promotions and events. The "Mosbach (cultural) summer” with more than 30 open-air events and the "cult pub tour", the experience markets as well as colourful festivals and events time and again attract crowds of visitors and invite to discover "Mosbach with all your senses". Centre of the vibrant and diverse cultural scene is the Old Malthouse Culture and Convention Centre, in which a lot is offered for all ages, from classical to pop.
Events and programs don’t appeal to you? Then simply enjoy a stroll through the almost Mediterranean-like pedestrianised streets, browse in the shops and indulge in one of the cosy street cafés.
In the months of May to September, every Wednesday at 02:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., a city tour takes place during which you can climb the City Hall tower. The meeting point is in front of the Tourist Information Centre on the market square.
