In Bad Wimpfen you can feel the past and enjoy the present. Every Sunday at 14:00 a lady in historical garments offers a tour through the historical town and makes history come to life. Numerous historic buildings such as the Red Tower, the “Stone House”, the Palatinate chapel and the Arcades in the Great Hall of the Staufen Imperial Palace bear witness to past times.

Culturally, Bad Wimpfen on the river Neckar has lots to offer. In the Historical Museum, the Free Imperial City Museum or the Ecclesiastical History Museum you can experience lots about the interesting and eventful history of Bad Wimpfen. In addition to the city's museums, a variety of events, such as the Talmarkt (Valley Market) and Zunftmarkt (Guild Market) as well as the Imperial Town Festival, provides for fun and entertainment.
At the end of a year of events in Wimpfen, the traditional German Christmas Market enchants its visitors against the romantic backdrop of the picturesque Old Town.

Architectural treasures in Bad Wimpfen

A highlight of the city of Wimpfen is the so-called Blue Tower. The symbol of the city was built in the early 13th Century. It was the western keep of the Hohenstaufen Mountain Palace and is approximately 32 m high. From a gallery underneath the tower spire you have a fantastic view over the Neckar. You can visit the building that was used as a watchtower up to the 19th Century.
The “Stone House” was built around 1200 and served in all likelihood as a bower of the Hohenstaufen Palace. This building is now one of the largest Romanesque residential constructions in Germany. Today it houses the Historical Museum of the City. There are discoveries from various eras on display here.

The Red Tower is the eastern keep of the Hohenstaufen Imperial Palace. Since 2006, it has been presented as a Swabian tower from the medieval period. Here, visitors embark on a journey through time. Inside you will learn a lot about the time of the 13th Century through presentation boards, replica weapons, ceramics and jewellery.
