The Bebenhausen Monastery and Palace

In the middle of Schönbuch, only a few kilometres from the river Neckar, lies the former Cistercian Monastery of Bebenhausen. The monastery was probably founded in the 12th century by Palgrave Rudolph von Tübingen. Today the monastery and palace are one of Tübingen's main sights.

The Bebenhausen Monastery and Palace

The Bebenhausen Monastery had its zenith from the 13th to the 15th century. It it was one of the richest monasteries in Württemberg. After the Reformation the abbey buildings were used as a protestant convent school and as a hunting lodge for the kings of Württemberg. Between 1947 and 1952 the buildings were used by the legislative assembly of the State of Württemberg-Hohenzollern.
